Another Year Has Passed |
[Some Personal Thoughts on the Believer's Accountability]
It seems hard to believe,
but, yes, a year has passed!
Looking back I ask, What have you done?
How spent you the time allotted you?
How managed you the riches entrusted you?
Strength, health and wealth, temporal and eternal,
Say, what did you? Can you give a strict account?
As I tremble in silence standing, my eyes wet,
Recalling many a failure and faithlessness,
Another thought leaps to anguished mind,
Nay, think, What did the LORD in you?
Now I breathe again, I know He knows
He has faithful been to me, ne’er Himself denied.
He led me in paths unknown to me
He helped me see what a wretch saved He
He let my soul go down to the dust
‘Till I cried for Him to quicken me
Again and again, down took He me
Again and again, up brought He me
Painful though the process be
I knew His right hand upheld me.
Dear Jesus, now somewhat better I see
You don’t so want my works as me
And that for me to know, Who and What You are.
To know, to love, worship, adore
Fill me now with thirstings more
For You, my God, and You alone.

things were gain to me, those I counted loss for Christ. |
